Keeping strong and healthy finger nails

Start by taking a careful look at your finger nails .Are your finger nails healthy and strong? You might notice some ridges or some dents or even some areas having unusual shape and even unusual color. Through practicing property care, undesirable fingernails can be greatly avoided though others might indicate disease requiring doctors’ attention.
The nails are made up of laminated protein layers known as keratin which grow from the nail base under the cuticle. As growth of new cells occur; the older cells tend to become very compacted and are pushed out towards the tips of the fingers.
Finger nails that are healthy are smooth with no ridges or even grooves. They are also free from discoloration and have a very uniform and beautiful color and have no spots. Nails also tend to develop conditions which are harmless like vertical ridges which run from the finger cuticle to the nail tip and tend to become more visible as people grow older. Also if nails get injured they can develop spot or even white lines but they tend to eventually grow out as the nail grows.
All conditions of nails are not normal and some are actually signs of an illness needing urgent medical attention. Some of these dangerous conditions include:
Indentations that occur in your nails and run across the entire area of the nail. This can be harmful to your nails and you should seek medical services from a qualified doctor when you discover such conditions.
Yellow discoloration on the nails .This indicates that your fingers are lacking some nutrients or is affected by some bacteria or fungi. Visit a doctor if you notice this condition for you to get early diagnosis and treatment.
Separations which occur and separate your nail from its bed, a condition known as onycholysis. Seek  medical attention if you have this condition
Pitting of the nails is another dangerous condition requiring urgent attention from a qualified doctor.
Nails which are opaque or even white .It is unusual for nails to have these colors. Visit a doctor at once.
Nails which are curled.
